The team member we are introducing to you this month definitely lives up to her celestial name, she’s “a real star” according to our General Manager, Liz Smaill.
Meet our lovely Research Nurse, Angel Albao.
Before coming to Optimal, Angel hadn’t been involved in the medical research industry. After three years of hospital nursing, leaving shift work behind (especially night shifts), has been a blessing, giving her more time to do what she enjoys - spending time with family and friends.
Angel’s role is varied - when she is working on a trial she checks participants vital signs, performs blood tests, ECGs and prepares the treatment that is being investigated, called the Investigational Product.
On top of this she keeps the clinic equipment stocked, arranges the team’s CPR courses, flu and Covid-19 vaccines and trains new clinical staff members.
She propels this supernatural ability to juggle different roles even further by also being a study co-ordinator for some of the trials - meaning she runs the study, trains staff and ensures all protocols and regulations are adhered to.
And her favourite part of the role? “I love seeing participants, learning about them and what motivates them in joining our clinical trials. I believe that our work at Optimal helps make a difference in the future of medicine, and without the contribution of our participants, this wouldn’t be possible.”
If you’re visiting our clinic you’re most likely to find Angel in the clinical rooms with participants, in the lab, or happily in the kitchen. She won’t necessarily be cooking, the kitchen is just conveniently by her desk.
